OUR OPEN MIC AND SHOWCASE PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO HELP THE SONGWRITER DEVELOP HIS PERFORMING SKILLS. WHO BETTER TO START PROMOTING HIS SONGS THAN THE SONGWRITER HIMSELF. STARTING WITH PERFORMING 1 SONG AT THE OPEN MIC AND GETTING THE EXPERIENCE TO WORK UP TO A 30 MINUTES TO 1 HOUR SPOT ON A SHOWCASE.
Songwriters can play as few as one song and as many as 3-5 songs depending on how many sign up. Just show up and sign up on the list. You will get a turn to play for a nurturing audience who will listen to your song and not judge your performance, but can offer constructive feedback upon request.
Songwriters who have a live recording of their performance and can play 30 minutes of their original material may contact the showcase director to schedule a spot. If you do not have a recording, then show up and perform at the open mic and let the director know you will be there. Once you have performed on a 30 minute program, then you can apply for a one hour spot at one of our showcases. You must be a member in good standing of Dallas Songwriters Association to showcase.
We had a great time at the First Thursday open mic at Half Price Books. Bobby Montgomery hosted, and we had the largest turnout I've seen there yet. If you haven't taken part in that event yet, please try to make it soon. The room is great for playing...and for listening to your fellow songwriters.
ReplyDeleteThe next open mic is the Third Thursday at Dunn Bros. in Addison. I'm excited to be hosting this month, and I hope you'll join us. In the meantime....let's all write something!
